                         Tenshinsai Fujiwara no Masanobu

 

Nickname:   Mitsutake Seishū

 

He studied under Hamada Seishū Masao Soke, the 14th generation headmaster, a direct descendant of the genius military strategist Kuroda Kanbei, who laid the foundations of the Fukuoka domain with 520,000 koku (1 koku = enough rice for a person to live on for a year). As per his teacher’s wishes, he re-established the Shūyūkan, that originates from the prefectural school in Fukuoka, and now teaches traditional martial arts throughout Japan. In 2002, he was awarded a gold medallion for his contributions to preserving traditional Japanese martial arts by Princess Akishinonomiya Kiko of the Imperial Household. In 2014, he received an honourary title, and in 2021 a 10th Dan licence.

 

He is a permanent member of the Japan Traditional Martial Arts Federation, a recognized director of the Fukuoka City Sports Association, a recognized instructor of the Japan Disabled Persons Association, and chairman of the Kuroda Han Martial Arts Preservation Society. He is ranked 10th Dan in the Japan Traditional Martial Arts Federation and holds several teaching licences (menkyo kaiden).

 

He is a hereditary teacher of the 3 main styles of swordsmanship taught in Fukuoka province – Yagyū Shinkage Ryū Heihō, Tenshin Shōden Shintō Ryū, and Niten Ryū Heihō.

 

In addition, he is also a hereditary teacher of Kumamoto Han Niten Ichi Ryū Heihō, Kokura Han Niten Ryū Heihō, Enmei Ryū Heihō, Fukuoka Hanshi Den Uchida Ryū Tanjōjutsu, Takeda Ryū Heihō, Anazawa Ryū Naginata, Nakazawa Ryū Goshin Jutsu, Ryū Kō Ryū Heihō and Keishi Ryū Bujutsu etc.
